GFS

GFS (GFS Platform for Young Women) was founded in 1875 as an Anglican Society for girls and young women. Its original motto ‘Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ’ (Galatians vi 2) continues to be the inspiration of all the Society’s Christian based work in both Community projects and Parish based Branch work.

The GFS Branch at St Mary's, Market Drayton, meets during term time on Thursday evenings between 6.15pm and 7.30pm in the Parish Room. Girls from the age of 6 years are welcome to join us.

Our aim is to encourage social, physical and spiritual development in a safe, friendly environment, through shared activities including games, drama and crafts. Refreshments, sometimes prepared by the girls themselves, are an important part of the evening. Fun days and trips to meet other members also take place.

Older girls are encouraged to take on more responsibility, becoming young helpers, who plan and assist activities with the younger girls.

We ask for a ₤2 subscription at the beginning of each Half term. We would prefer the girls to wear a GFS sweatshirt for meetings and outside activities, and when enrolled each girl receives a Membership badge.

Information leaflets about the Branch may be collected from Church.

Branch Leader is Mrs. E. Gibbons (01630 657189)

At St. Mary’s there’s lots to do for kids of all ages. See below for details of Sunday Club, GFS, Toddler’s Church and our Sunday morning crčche...

Toddler’s Church

Toddlers’ Church is especially for babies and pre-school children and their carers. We meet at St. Mary’s church at 9.30 on Tuesday morning during term time. We sing a welcome song in which each child is named and a candle is lit to show that “Jesus is the Light of the World”. We enjoy action songs and rhymes and a bible story, followed by prayers and an activity. Then we all have a drink and a biscuit while the adults chat and the children play.

All are welcome
